A more or less weekly screed against humanity's desecration of the biosphere - that living surface of Earth of which we are all a part and upon which we depend to live.
So we're going to try to save our planet by "going green." Unfortunately, it's only going to prolong the problem.
Even if we survive - or halt - global warming; even if we survivie the end of fossil fuels, the demands our huge human population is making on the bioshphere will be our undoing.
With increasing numbers of peoples wanting to enjoy living the "good life" of the consumer economy - wanting to live how, when and where they want, wanting to recreate where, when and how they want - their demands are increasingly destroying the worldwide environment.
Since the 18th century, too many couples have had three or more children that lived to breeding age. In Napoleon's time, world population was about a billion. After WWII, about 3.5 billion. Today, almost 7 billion. By 2020, 8 billion.
No "greening," no alternative energy system, no effort to attenuate global warming, can halt the rapidly increasing destruction of the biosphere this rising population is carrying out. Forests and rainforests are being cleared; oceans are being overfished and polluted; other species, denied their habitats, are being brought to extinction.
This trend, of course, can be reversed, but the cost of doing so is prohibitive. And for each year we don't try, the cost rises considerably.
Stop the cancerous growth of mankind's population by supporting a world-wide program of spaying and neutering humans!
